Dustin’s First Weekend at Southern National Motorsports Park
This week the Racing Outlaws team visited Southern National Motorsports Park for the first time with Dustin in the Bandolero. We went Friday to test and Dustin enjoyed the track. He was very smooth and was open to trying different lines around the track to find the fastest way around. Dustin made three practice runs and a total of about 20 laps in practice on Friday.
Saturday, we got to the track and had to change to track fuel. Not to big of a deal other than the time it took to drain the fuel we already had in the car. Safety inspection of the car went well and that is comforting to know that Dustin is safe in the car. Practice went well but Dustin was 2 seconds off the pace. I tried to make some adjustments on the car to help him and it did help in tenths of a second. Dustin qualified fourth out of the seven cars there. He was able to finish in fourth as well.
Again, this is a learning season for both Dustin and myself. I think next week, we will have a surprise for them in that we will be faster and Dustin will be challenging for the lead and the win. Learning as we go, but our learning curve just got a little bit smaller.
Would also like to thank those who came out on the Memorial Day weekend to support Dustin. I know you could have found many other things to do besides spend your Saturday at the racetrack. We honestly appreciate it!
